Peter Petrucci qualifies as someone who has established an outstanding professional career as a jazz guitarist, composer and educator.

Among one of Australia’s leading jazz guitarists, Peter is recognised for his virtuosity and lyricism in improvisations and compositions.  He has released seven albums of original music to date, “The Journey Home”, “This Way Out”, “Nowhere to Be Found”, “From Within”, “River Story”, “Message from the Past” and “Freesome” and has appeared on over 30 recordings as guest artist.

Peter has performed locally and internationally supporting distinguished musicians such as internationally recognised Scott Colley, Zak Danziger, Gene Jackson, Ray Piper, Antonio Ferone, Simon Spade and Mark Dziuba.  Australian artists include Jamie Oehlers, Ben Vanderwal, Aaron Choulai, Ben Robertson, Gary Costello, Sam Anning, Andrew Gander, Chris Hale, David Jones, Jeromy Alsop, Tony Gould and Geoff Kluke to name a few.

Peter was nominated for the Aria Award in the best Jazz recording category in 2001, 2003 and 2006 and The Bells Australian Jazz Awards for best composition in 2005 and 2006.

He received a CMTP Grant in 2001 and completed a successful four-week Australian tour promoting “River Story” which was one of the nominated recordings for the Aria Awards and is the highest selling jazz recording for the Move label in its 46 year history.

Peter graduated in 1990 with a Bachelor of Arts Music from the Victorian College of the Arts and returned in 1995 as lecturer of improvisation.  He continues to be an integral part of this department.  In 2013 The University of Melbourne (VCA) appointed Peter Honorary Fellow for his outstanding contribution to jazz education.

During a seven month residency in New York, Peter studied with renowned guitarists John Scofield, Jim Hall, Pat Martino and aural trainer Charlie Banacos.  The National Guitar Summer Workshop (New York) made Peter Artist in residence in 1997, 1998, 1999 and 2000.

Peter has performed at various festivals such as the Montreal and Quebec International jazz Festival (CAN), Burlington Jazz Festival (USA), Stuttgart Guitar Festival (DE) Pistoia Jazz and Blues Festival (It), Melbourne International Jazz Festival, many appearances at the Wangarratta Jazz Festival, Stonnington Jazz Festival, Queensland Jazz Festival, and the Adelaide International Guitar Festival.
